A Multidisciplinary Approach to Re-defining Functional Anatomic Organs at Risk for Sexual Toxicity in Women Undergoing Pelvic Radiation

There is little research on the long term effects of the use pelvic radiation to treat cancer in women, particularly relating to sexual function. This is primarily because female sexual anatomy beyond reproductive anatomy is not well understood.

This study conducted by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai sought to understand what sexual organs are at risk following pelvic radiation and how the dose may result in different outcomes. SHE+ is proud to have funded this study in 2019 to expand knowledge on sexual dysfunction among cancer survivors.
